Who We Are

The Manitoba Clean Environment Commission is an arms-length provincial government agency.

Members of the CEC Being a Commissioner

Message from the Chair - Jonathan Scarth

Welcome to the Manitoba Clean Environment Commission website.

It is our hope that, through the website, you will be able to find out who we are; what we do; and how you and other interested persons may become involved in our proceedings.

From our website, you will find that our principal role is to provide opportunities for the Manitoba public to play a part in ensuring the protection of our environment. This is done by providing a forum at which the public can participate in environmental assessment and decision-making, and in offering advice to the government.

As a rule, this is done at the request of the minister responsible for The Environment Act who will ask us to review any potential environmental impacts presented by proposed developments. In recent years, these have included Manitoba Hydro Generation and Transmission projects and the management of waste water by the City of Winnipeg.

Our proceedings work well only when there is active involvement by an engaged public. So, I encourage you to review those sections of our site that describe how the public may become involved. They also tell of the kinds of support available to public participants.

We welcome your review of our site and we would, especially, welcome you to participate in future Commission hearings.
